A. All community members are encouraged to sponsor any temple pooja.  Sponsors provide the pooja material, prasad (one sweet and fruits) and food.  Sponsors must arrive at the temple by 11:00 am or earlier if they need to cook that morning.  Food Committee members assist the sponsors in the kitchen with the distribution of prasad and/or food and the clean up of the kitchen and hall.  All paper supplies are provided by the temple. A. In some cases even for special pooja’s or major pooja’s as established by the Executive Committee, the $3.00 food charge can be waived, provided the sponsors donate $500.00 in lieu of a charge to the devotees. The revenue such generated is used to meet various temple-related expenses.

Membership

Q.
Why should I become a member, and what does the membership do for me?

A. The most important reason to become a member is to be a part of the temple family, and to feel pride in sharing in the expenses of running the temple.  In the course of a year, a lot of expenses are incurred to run the temple. It is a good feeling to know that one is sharing in this. Secondly, as a member you have the ability to participate in the decision-making process to run the temple. Thirdly, members are offered discounted rates for hall rental, educational classes, library and other fees. Overall, benefits of having the membership are worth more than the dues paid for it.

Future Expansion

Q.
Why has the temple not changed much in the past several years?  Are there any future expansion plans?

The HCV was built in 1988 to serve the religious, cultural and educational needs of the community. As of September 2007, a Fund Raising & Expansion Committee is aggressively working on approving contracts to build a new Temple at our Hindu Center property.  The designs and preliminary plans have mostly been approved.  A new Temple Initiation Ceremony will be held in a grand way on September 15 & 16, 2007 along with the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.  If everything works out as planned, we should have a new huge Temple that the community will be proud of by the later part of 2008.

General

Q. What are the temple opening hours?

A. Temple timings are posted at the main door, and also published in Bharatvani:

Mon - Fri: 7:00 am -9:00 am; 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Sat - Sun: 11:00 am-1:00 pm. The Temple is open at other times also for any scheduled poojas or spiritual discourses. Please check the monthly newsletter regularly.

Q. Will there be a Hindu Temple sign, and an Indian flag at the temple entrance? When?

A. As of September 2007, a new permanent beautiful sign and entrance gate have been installed at the Hindu Center.  Flying the Indian flag on the main entrance raises many issues, and hence we are not planning to do that at this time.

Q. Is there a recommended dress code to visit the temple?  What happens if I do not follow the dress code?

A. All devotees are expected to be in proper attire while visiting the temple. Adults (15 years and above) are requested not to wear shorts while visiting the pooja hall.  If someone is not appropriately dressed they could be respectfully asked to leave.

Parents are requested not to let their children run around on the stage and the pooja hall.  Silence has to be maintained during pooja hours.
